The National Historical Publications and Records Commission (NHPRC) since 1977 has provided funding both directly and through regranting via the SC State Historical Records Advisory Board (SC SHRAB) to SC historical repositories and organizations. The direct grants and regrants have supported the preservation of and access to the Palmetto State's rich documentary heritage. These grants have benefited more than one hundred institutions and organizations and the many individuals seeking to understand and appreciate South Carolina's past. In all, NHPRC has provided nearly $1.5 million to South Carolina historical records projects and activities. Combined with more than $2.5 million in South Carolina cost sharing, including in-kind and cash matching funds, a total investment of approximately $4 million has been made to ensure a future for South Carolina's past.
