Museum Now on YouTube

South Carolina’s military history museum now has a home on YouTube, the largest video site on the internet.

The SC Confederate Relic Room and Military Museum’s YouTube site features behind the scenes stories at the museum. Viewers are able to see how artifacts are prepared for display and also gain a sneak peak at items not usually available to the public for viewing.

“We are excited about giving the community a new way to meet our staff and see the many exciting artifacts and programs we have here at the museum,” said Director Allen Roberson. “We are always looking for innovative ways to tell our story and educate the public about the rich martial history of our state.”

The museum now has several videos posted on its site and new videos are added regularly. One video features Sarah Wooton, Chief Curator of Collections and Exhibitions, giving viewers an inside look at the museum’s new World War I exhibit.  A special guest joins her on this video...but you have to watch to see who it is!

Another video features Curator of History Krissy Dunn showing a variety of bibles and books carried by soldiers in the Civil War.  One of these texts even stopped a bullet...but you have to watch to find out which one!

A third video features Joe Long, Curator of Education, as he explains bolo knives, a popular weapon used during the war by American soldiers in the Philippines.  Long discusses the adventures of the knife's owner and its gruesome uses...but you have to watch to find out what those were!

The museum’s site can be accessed by visiting www.crr.sc.gov/videos or http://www.youtube.com/SCCRRMM. After creating a free YouTube account visitors can subscribe to the channel by clicking the “Subscribe” button in the top right hand corner of the page.
