OF CORRECTIONS APPLICATION*** SUPERVISE INMATES IN THEIR LIVING QUARTERS, CAFETERIA, WORK AREA, RECREATION AREA & OUTSIDE THEIR ASSIGNED FACILITY, E.G.,IN TRANSIT,SICK CALL,IN COURT, WORK SITES, ETC.MAKE REGULAR SECURITY INSPECTIONS & SEARCHES OF FACILITY, EQUIPMENT,VEHICLES,PEOPLE (INMATES,VISITORS & STAFF), & GROUNDS & TAKE APPROPRIATE ACTION. PREPARE & SUBMIT WRITTEN REPORTS ON DAILY ACTIVITIES, DISCIPLINARY INFRACTIONS,ACCIDENTS & INCIDENTS.ADVISE & COUNSEL INMATES, AS NECESSARY,CONCERNING WORK HABITS & PERSONAL MATTERS.AS NECESSARY,MAY OPERATE SECURITY DEVICES SUCH AS GATES & DOORS (MANUAL & ELECTRIC),"DEAD LOCK",WEAPONS (LETHAL & NON-LETHAL)& MECHANICAL RESTRAINING DEVICES.SUPERVISE INMATES & ASSIST IN THE MAINTENANCE OF SAFETY/SANISTATION STANDARDS OF FACILITY.DEVELOP & MAINTAIN A PROFESSIONAL RAPPORT WITH ALL INMATES UNDER HIS/HER CONTROL,MAY RESOLVE VERBAL & PHYSICAL DISPUTES AMONG INMATES TO INCLUDE USE OF FORCE WHEN APPROPRIATE.INVESTIGATE MATTERS AS ASSIGNED/DELEGATED BY HIGHER AUTHORITY.
State of South Carolina Minimum Training and Experience Requirements:

A high school diploma.
Additional Requirements:
MUST BE A U.S. CITIZEN, POSSESS A VALID DRIVER'S LICENSE AND MUST HAVE THE ABILITY TO WORK ANY 12 HOUR SHIFT, ANY DAY OF THE WEEK. MUST SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETE CORRECTIONAL OFFICER BASIC TRAINING UPON ENTRY INTO THE POSITION. MUST PASS A PRE-EMPLOYMENT PHYSICAL. A BACKGROUND INVESTIGATION WILL BE CONDUCTED TO INCLUDE, BUT NOT LIMITED TO, A CRIMINAL RECORD CHECK, DRIVER'S LICENSE CHECK AND CREDIT HISTORY PRIOR TO AN OFFER OF EMPLOYMENT.Note: If any additional requirements are listed above applicants must also meet those Additional Requirements to be considered for the position.
