Forest Tree Seedlings
SEEDLING SPECIES AND PRICES
2021-2022

The South Carolina Forestry Commission is proud to partner with commercial seedling provider ArborGen on the production, sales and delivery of forest tree seedlings for SC landowners. Taylor Nursery, near Trenton, S.C., is still owned by the Forestry Commission, but ArborGen is now providing management services to operate the nursery.

ArborGen is making capital investments to the facility to increase its production capacity; this unique public/private partnership will guarantee SC landowners improved genetics and quality seedlings for years to come.

Under this partnership, the Forestry Commission will determine seedling production for up to 5 million seedlings annually, with 4.12 million seedlings to be grown in 2021. The Forestry Commission will set prices for these seedlings grown specifically for South Carolina landowners by ArborGen. The prices in this guide will only apply to the first 100,000 seedlings ordered each year by qualified landowners for seedlings to be planted in South Carolina.

Be sure to ask for your Forestry Commission discount when placing your order with ArborGen if the seedlings are to be planted in South Carolina.

As always, feedback from you on our seedling program is essential. Please supply ArborGen with your email address when placing your order so the Forestry Commission can include you in our annual Seedling Customer Satisfaction Survey at the end of each planting season.

For more information, or if you just have questions about this partnership, please contact SCFC Resource Development Director Tim Adams at (803) 896-8802 or tadams@scfc.gov. And don’t forget to ask for South Carolina landowner pricing when making your order!

Ordering

There is no longer an order form for Forestry Commission seedlings; customers who want to inquire about availability or order our seedlings must call Taylor Nursery directly at (803) 275-3578; ArborGen personnel will take and process all orders.

Customers can pick up their seedlings at Taylor Nursery or arrange for shipping through a commercial carrier.

Most importantly, customers who are ordering Forestry Commission seedlings to be planted in South Carolina are eligible to receive exclusive, discounted pricing on orders up to 100,000 seedlings per landowner.

To take advantage of the discount, qualified customers must tell the ArborGen representative who is taking their order that they want the Forestry Commission discount.

Temporary Logging Bridge Rental Program

The South Carolina Forestry Commission has established the Temporary Logging Bridge Rental Program in an effort to enhance the Best Management Practices (BMPs) for Forestry program and help protect the waters of South Carolina. The Commission has acquired four sets of steel bridges that are available for rent by adequately insured contractors for forestry-related ditch or stream crossings.

There are two types of bridges available – A 4-foot-wide set made up of three 4-foot by 30-foot bridge sections and a 6-foot-wide set composed of two 6-foot by 30-foot bridge sections. The rental fee for either set is $50 per week, with a $200 deposit required at the time of rental. The deposit amount will be returned or applied to the bill upon satisfactory completion of the rental period.

The bridges are located at the SCFC offices in Walterboro and Columbia. SCFC personnel will load the bridges onto contractors’ trailers, but they must be secured and transported by the contractor.

In order to rent the bridges, the contractor must possess or obtain:

To request more information or to reserve a set of bridges, please contact SCFC Environmental Program Manager Holly Welch at (803) 667-0815 or hwelch@scfc.gov.
