Forest Protection System

The South Carolina Forestry Commission is responsible for protecting 12.9 million acres from wildland fire; this includes 12.2 million acres of commercial forestland. The South Carolina Forestry Commission has a statewide wildland fire prevention, detection and control network in place. Forestry Commission personnel are assigned throughout the State through a series of zone, unit, regional, and headquarters offices. The largest single group of employees -wildland firefighters -report directly from their residences in responding to wildland fires. Regional administrative and support offices are located in Newberry, Florence, and Walterboro. Central emergency dispatch centers are co-located at the regional office sites. Forestry Commission dispatch is by closest available resource, regardless of political or administrative boundaries.

SC Fire Station Listing(pdf)

The South Carolina Forestry Commission maintains a list of fire stations in the state. The current listing of known fire stations and their physical location (including latitude and longitude) is obtained using 2011 NAIP aerial photography, fire department web sites, county Tax Assessors online property data, county GIS department data, Googleİ street view, and the efforts of our field personnel over the last 16 years. Please let us know of any additions or changes that need to be made.

The South Carolina Forestry Commission GIS program is housed under the Education and Information Technology Division.

The GIS program is responsible for spatial data and application development.
