FORESTRY COMMISSION FIREFIGHTERS HEAD TO TEXAS
( Columbia, SC) The Forestry Commission is sending six bulldozer operators to help fight wildfires in east Texas. The six will leave Sunday morning for a two-week tour of duty with the Texas Forest Service.
The South Carolina contingent is trained and experienced in bulldozer firefighting operations. They will relieve weary Texas operators who have been battling blazes nonstop since before Christmas.
According to SC Forestry Commission Fire Chief Paul Watts, the mission is in response to a request from the Texas Forest Service. Texas will reimburse South Carolina for the firefighters expenses.
