2003 Runner-up
WESTMINSTER STUDENT TAKES SECOND IN STATE CONTEST

(COLUMBIA, SC) - A fifth-grader from Westminster Elementary School has taken second place in the SC Arbor Day poster contest. Ariel Blackís poster of an urban scene was one of more than 2,000 contest entries statewide.

Blackís prizes include a certificate of recognition and $30 in cash. Her prizes will be awarded in Arbor Day ceremonies in Columbia on December 5.

The contest, sponsored by the National Arbor Day Foundation and Toyota, is administered in SC by the Forestry Commissionís Urban Forestry Program. Prizes are furnished by the SC Urban and Community Forestry Council, the SC Nursery and Landscape Association, and The Garden Club of SC.

This yearís theme, "Trees are Terrific . . . In Cities and Towns," emphasized the importance of trees in urban settings.
