FORESTRY OFFICER IS TOP CRIMINAL
(Columbia, SC) A Forestry Commission officer has won law enforcement’s prestigious J.P. Strom Award. Forestry Officer Ron Holt received the award as top graduate of his class at the SC Criminal Justice Academy.
Named for former SLED Chief J.P. Strom, the award recognizes the highest overall average for the grueling nine-week basic law enforcement training program. Holt is the second Forestry Commission officer to win the coveted Strom award in the past five months.
Holt, a Clemson University graduate, has worked with the Forestry Commission for seven years. He now adds law enforcement to his forest management, firefighting, and supervisory duties in Barnwell and Aiken Counties.
All South Carolina law enforcement officers must graduate from the state’s Criminal Justice Academy. The intensive training regimen includes criminal law, arrest procedures, firearms, pursuit driving, defensive tactics, and physical fitness.
