GASTON MAN CONFESSES TO MULTIPLE WOODS ARSON COUNTS

Jeffrey R. Pound(Columbia,SC)–South Carolina Forestry Commission officers have charged a man with intentionally setting woods fires near his Woodtrail Court home in Lexington County.  Jeffery R. Pound admitted to setting the fires which were set on May 23, May 27 and June 1, 2008.

Mr. Pound faces three counts of willfully burning lands of another.  Each count carries a maximum penalty of $5,000.00 in fines or imprisonment of up to five years if he’s convicted.  The SCFC was able to make this arrest with the help of the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department.

Woods arson is a felony.  The South Carolina Forestry Commission is dedicated to wildfire suppression.  This state’s on-going drought has primed it for aggressive wildfire behavior.  One of the fires set by Mr. Pound reached about three acres in size.  Woods arson crimes will be prosecuted in South Carolina.
