UNFINISHED TIMBER DEAL LEADS TO LIBERTY MANíS ARREST

Dean Stegall(Columbia, SC) --Law Enforcement agents with the South Carolina Forestry Commission have arrested and charged a Liberty, SC man with failing to pay a landowner for trees he harvested from her land.

According to arrest documents, Barry Stegall, 43, met with the victim, told her she had diseased trees on her Pickens Co. property that needed to be cut and struck a deal for payment once the timber was sold off.  Stegall offered to pay the landowner between $2,000.00 and $4,000.00 for the trees.  That was in September of 2007.  Under South Carolina law, Stegall had 45 days to make payment to the landowner once the timber was cut.  He has failed to make the payment despite several attempts by the victim to collect.

Stegall was arrested on February 14th and is currently out on bond awaiting trial.
