(Columbia, SC) - A Forestry Commission employee has been honored for four decades of service to the state. Larry Bobb, a materials manager at the Commissionís state headquarters, was awarded a 40-year service certificate in ceremonies last month.
Bobb began his career in Newberry County as a forest firefighter. Skilled in operating heavy equipment, Bobb helped fight some of the stateís largest wildfires, including the 7,400 acre Gaston Fire in 1966 and the 30,000 acre Horry County Fire in 1976.
Over the years, Bobb served the Commission in a number of capacities including mechanic and central warehouse manager. His present position involves obtaining excess property from federal installations for loan to South Carolina fire departments.
Bobb is married to a Forestry Commission retiree, the former Lynnette Goethe of Newberry.
