MORE FORESTRY COMMISSION FIREFIGHTERS ROTATE TO TEXAS

( Columbia, SC) --Six Forestry Commission firefighters will leave for Texas Saturday morning. They will replace a group of South Carolina personnel already on duty there since January 1.

The South Carolina contingent will initially report to Granbury, Texas. From there the Texas Forest Service will deploy them to standby stations throughout the central Texas area.

The six will serve as initial attack firefighters, providing first response when a wildfire is reported. They will operate bulldozers or light fire engines supplied by the Texas Forest Service.

According to Forestry Commission personnel already on duty in Texas, wildfire danger remains high.

The firefighters will assemble at SC Forestry Commission headquarters at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 14. Forestry Commission headquarters is located at 5500 Broad River Road, Columbia, SC.

Personnel are from Anderson, Berkeley, Charleston, Kershaw, Laurens, and Marion Counties.
