SUMMERVILLE NATIVE ASSIGNED AS SC COASTAL URBAN FORESTER
(Columbia, SC) The South Carolina Forestry Commission is pleased to announce that Frances Waite has been chosen as the Coastal Region Urban Forester for the state.
As an Urban Forester, Waite will be providing technical and educational assistance within a 13-county area to a variety of clients including municipal and county governments, non-profit organizations, professional associations and others.
Frances will lend her expertise to community forestry program development, public tree inventory guidance, tree ordinance review, species selection, arboriculture, and public education.
“We welcome her to this specialty position and look forward to re-connecting with many growing communities along the coast and throughout the region,” State Urban Forestry Coordinator Liz Gilland said.
Frances has been with the Forestry Commission since 1997 as the Project Forester for Charleston and Dorchester Counties. As Project Forester she developed forest management plans and provided guidance to forest landowners, provided natural resource information for county planning committees and assisted with wildland firefighting and prevention.
Waite, a Summerville native, is a 1995 Clemson graduate and holds Masters in Forest Resource Management. She recently completed a Master Naturalist course.
