HOLLY HILL MAN ARRESTED FOR WOODS ARSON

(Columbia, SC)South Carolina Forestry Commission officers have charged a man with intentionally setting a woods fire.  W.T. Moore, Jr. of Holly Hill admitted to starting a fire along Bass Road near Bunch Ford Road on December 1, 2007.

The fire was reported to 911 who in turn called the Forestry Commission.  Mr. Moore admitted to the SCFC officer that he started the fire by lighting a small amount of Kleenex tissue.  Less than one acre of land burned.

Mr. Moore’s one count carries a maximum penalty of $5,000.00 in fines or imprisonment of up to five years if convicted.

Woods arson is a felony.  The South Carolina Forestry Commission is dedicated to wildfire suppression.  This state’s on-going drought has primed it for an active wildfire season.  Recent fires have been abnormally frequent and aggressive for the time of year.  Woods arson crimes will be prosecuted in South Carolina.
