HOW TO PARTNER WITH DMH FOR SCHOOL-BASED MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES

STEPS TO FOLLOW

ONE:        Contact your local community mental health center (CMHC) and set up meeting with center Director and Children Services Director

TWO:       Describe your community/school’s needs

THREE:     Brainstorm how mental health services would benefit your community/school

FOUR:       Assess population to be served, cost-share

service (approximately $20,000.00 per MH Professional); school project site, and partnership needs

FIVE:        Develop memorandums of agreement (MOA) and/or contract between agencies

SIX:         Present school-based mental health program plans to stakeholders (School-Board, school, parents, etc.)

ALTERNATIVES to start-up funding provided by local community/school = Grant Writing

Follow steps 1 thru 4; add grant writing team as a step; once grant obtained implement steps 5 and 6.
