Columbia Area Mental Health Center Names New Director
Columbia, SC – Today, the South Carolina Department of Mental Health (SCDMH) and the board of directors of the Columbia Area Mental Health Center announced that Robert L. Bank, M.D., has been named executive director of the mental health center, effective June 1, 2006. Dr. Bank will replace Judy Noffsinger, who is retiring from SCDMH.
Dr. Bank began his employment with SCDMH in 1982, as service chief at the William S. Hall Psychiatric Institute (Hall Institute). He also served there as director of Psychiatric Residency Training. Further, he has worked as psychiatric service chief at the Columbia Area Mental Health Center and as psychiatric service director at Hall Institute. Dr.Bank has been director of Adult Clinical Services at Columbia Area Mental Health Center, since 2004. He is a clinical professor, Department of Neuropsychiatry, USC School of Medicine.
A native of Elmhurst, Illinois, Dr. Bank earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Loyola University, Chicago, Illinois, and received his medical degree from the Loyola-Stritch School of Medicine, Maywood, Illinois. He completed his psychiatric residency at Walter Reed Army Medical Center, Washington, DC, and is board certified in adult psychiatry.
According to Gene Green, chair of the Columbia Area Mental Health Center Board of Directors, “The board believes that Dr. Bank has an excellent strategic vision for the center and certainly has the skills, background and demonstrated performance to deliver the services needed by the clients of the center.”
Dr. Bank and his wife, Patricia, live in Lexington, SC.
