Columbia, S.C., Jan. 5, 2000 ...At its meeting Jan. 4, the S.C. Mental Health Commission named John Fletcher director of Patrick B. Harris Psychiatric Hospital. Harris Hospital is a 206-bed Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) accredited inpatient facility in Anderson, S.C.
Fletcher, who has been serving as acting director since Aug. 23, 1999, will assume this position Jan. 17.
State Director Stephen M. Soltys, M.D., said, "I am delighted with the selection of John Fletcher as director of Harris Hospital and know that he will do an outstanding job. He is an outstanding choice."
"In his position as acting director, he has taken substantial steps in creating a seamless system of care for clients in the region and has been an advocate for increasing cooperation between mental health centers in the region and facility," said David A. Rosin, M.D., deputy director, Division of Clinical Services. "I've been quite pleased with his work at Harris and look forward to his continuing efforts."
Fletcher earned a master's degree in health administration from Georgia State University and a bachelor of science degree from Troy State University. Two of Fletcher's prior positions include administrator of G. Werber Bryan Psychiatric Hospital in Columbia and administrator of S.C. State Hospital, also in Columbia.
The South Carolina Department of Mental Health has served the mental health needs of South Carolina citizens since 1821. Its 6,000 employees and 7,000 volunteers offer services from 17 community Mental health centers and six inpatient hospitals statewide.
