Sloan Named Director of Tucker/Dowdy Gardner Nursing Care Center Contact: John Hutto (803) 898-8581 Columbia, S.C., April 5, 2000 ... At its meeting April 4, the S.C. Mental Health Commission named Laura W. Sloan, R.N., director of the C.M. Tucker, Jr./Dowdy Gardner Nursing Care Center. Tucker/Dowdy Gardner provides care and treatment of elderly persons who are mentally and physically handicapped. Sloan began her employment with the Department of Mental Health in 1977 and served in a variety of nursing positions at both the William S. Hall Psychiatric Institute and Morris Village. She has been serving as acting director of Tucker/Dowdy Gardner since January 4. The South Carolina Department of Mental Health has served the mental health needs of South Carolina citizens since 1821. Its 6,000 employees and 7,000 volunteers offer services from 17 community mental health centers and seven inpatient hospitals statewide. |
