Public Access Internet Workstations Available at State Library

The South Carolina State Library at 1500 Senate Street has Internet workstations available for your research needs. All of the DISCUS * South Carolina*s Virtual Library full text databases are available plus many fee based services that contain useful information for state government employees. Many of these fee-based services are not yet available at your home or office computers but can be searched at the Library. Examples of the databases available at the State Library include:

--American Business Disc - directory of 10 million businesses

-- ArticleFirst - Index to articles from nearly 12,500 journals in science, technology, medicine, social science, business, the humanities, and popular culture.

--Biography & Genealogy Master Index - nearly 12 million biographical sketches covering both contemporary and historical figures.

-- Encyclopedia of Associations - directory of regional, national, and international associations

--FCScholar - education funding sources for individuals

--FCSearch - profiles of 47,000 private foundations & corporate grant makers

--Newslibrary - full-text articles from The State & other newspapers

--WorldCat - books, journals, and other publications located in libraries worldwide.

To use one of the Internet workstations at the Library, you will need to sign in at the Information desk and produce some form of identification (such as your State Library card). Each user is allowed two one-hour sessions per day to use the Library*s workstations.
