SUBJECT: Departmental Recreational Areas
I. POLICY:
The Department of Mental Health is committed to providing the best quality of life possible for the clients entrusted into our care. As part of this commitment, the Department recognizes the importance of a comprehensive recreational activities program. In order to support these recreational activities, the Department of Mental Health maintains one outdoor recreational area, Village Lake
II. APPROVED ACTIVITIES
Village Lake – Fishing is approved. Swimming and boating are prohibited.
III. AUTHORIZED USE
The departmental recreational areas are primarily designated for client recreational activities. All facilities of the Department of Mental Health are strongly encouraged to use these areas to their fullest potential. These facilities are also available to Midlands Center, Department of Disabilities and Special Needs, for client activities only. Employees, retired employees, and relatives/guests accompanied by employees or retired employees may purchase one day fishing permits for $2.00 each. No more than fifteen permits may be sold each day for Village Lake Recreational Area. The number of people using a single shelter for a particular activity will be limited to twenty-five (25). Revenues derived from these fees shall be used to maintain the recreational areas.
IV. RESPONSIBILITIES
This directive supersedes SCDMH Directive No. 720-88 dated August 16, 1988, entitled "Departmental Recreational Areas”.
