TO: Facility Superintendents/Directors and Administrators
SUBJECT: Patient Peddling
In the interest of patient care and safety, it is necessary that the South Carolina Department of Mental Health adopt a policy strictly prohibiting peddling or vending of merchandise by patients. Patients violating this policy will be subject to appropriate action as determined by the facility Superintendent or Director.
The canteen operation provided by each facility is for items to be purchased for personal use or consumption and not for resale.
It will be each facility's responsibility to develop its own internal policy necessary to eliminate patient's activities involving peddling, vending, and use of contraband.
This policy in no way restricts or limits jobs held by patients under the Vocational Rehabilitation programs.
