The National Association of Consumer/Survivor Mental Health Administrators
The National Association of Consumer/Survivor Mental Health Administrators (NAC/SMHA) represents state department of mental health senior managers who are current or former recipients of mental health services. They are designated by their State Director as the primary contact for the agency’s Office of Consumer Affairs.
There are over 40 state mental health agencies across the county with designated Offices of Consumer Affairs.
The Association provides a forum for members to develop strategies for balancing the often disparate demands and expectations of the two constituencies they serve: consumer/survivors and mental health bureaucracies.
The organization is a vehicle for professional networking and peer support, and is committed to expanding the participation of consumers/survivors in all aspects of the public mental health system.
The Association also offers technical assistance to state mental health departments who are interested in developing Offices of Consumer Affairs.
