Stone Pavilion accepted its first resident in 1971 and
has maintained a tradition of presenting the highest
long term nursing care.
For Our Veterans
From its birth more than 200 years ago, the United States has maintained a tradition -- mandated by law -- of caring for citizens who have served in her military. When there was a need, these veterans answered the call and then, as now, the country recognized and honored its obligation to do the same for them.
The E. Roy Stone, Jr. Veterans Pavilion is a testimony to this on-going commitment.
With funds provided by the federal government and the state of South Carolina, this nursing care facility was built specifically to serve the men and women veterans who live in the state. The home offers trained specialists in a variety of health care disciplines. The latest in medical technology and equipment, full support services on-site and convenient access to nearby amenities create a pleasant and complete living environment.
Veterans who meet eligibility requirements and would like more information and an application should contact an outpatient Social Worker at the local VA Hospital or they may call 803-737-5300.
The completed application is sent to the Admission Office, where the applicant is reviewed for appropriateness for admission to the Stone Pavilion.
A Complete Living
The home employs fully licensed primary care physicians experienced in long-term care. These specialists provide admittance and follow-up annual physical exams and regularly visit residents to ensure their physical well-being.
A full nursing staff serves residents 24 hours a day, supervised by Registered Nurses and Licensed Practical Nurses. The staff offers a broad range of experience, with particular emphasis in gerontological and rehabilitative services.
Licensed therapists under contract provide physical therapy.. The facility operates on-site occupational therapy services and speech therapy services, which are operated by full-time licensed therapists.
Licensed pharmacists and pharmacy technicians are on duty five days a week. A pharmacist is on call 24 hours a day.
Recreational and Therapeutic Activities
Residents enjoy a full range of activities under the supervision of trained and certified activity and occupational therapists and are encouraged to lead full, active lives. Physical, emotional and social needs are incorporated into these programs.
A licensed social work department offers counseling, assistance in obtaining financial benefits and other important services to residents and their families.
An ordained minister is assigned full-time to the pavilion. With other chaplains, 24-hour coverage is provided.
Under the supervision of registered dietitians, the dietary department meets the nutritional needs of each resident. Special diets are available as prescribed by an attending physician. Meals are served on the nursing units or in the dining room.
Transportation is provided for local medical or activity appointments. Ambulance service is used in emergency cases or for residents needing this service.
