The Assessment and Resource Center is a non-profit child abuse evaluation and treatment center and is a full member Children's Advocacy Center (CAC) through the National Children’s Alliance.

The Department of Mental Health Assessment & Resource Center began in 1990 as a small medical evaluation clinic, with a doctor, a social worker and a Child Life Specialist. The Assessment and Resource Center rapidly expanded to include mental health services, forensic interviewing and victim advocacy.

Today, the Assessment and Resource Center represents a collaboration between the South Carolina Department of Mental Health, University of South Carolina School of Medicine Department of Pediatrics, and Palmetto Health Children’s Hospital, and provides training to a wide range of professionals.
