This is a great time to be involved in aerospace. The site you must
check often is NASA's Marshall Space
Flight Center's page. The research and breakthroughs are always very interesting and may
impact how CAP carries out its missions.
There is some exciting research going on at
NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center's - Advanced Space Transportation Research Program. Once you get to NASA's ASTP site, click "ASTP", then
click the red square that says "Space
Transportation Research" and then "Beamed Energy Launch

CAP National HQs has approved engine upgrade of Cessna 172R and a study of a new navaid
system. Check NASA's AGATE program also.

Einstein Wrong ???
Was Einstein wrong?? In 1905 Albert Einstein stated unequivocally that nothing in
the universe could travel faster than the speed of light. As stated in the August 1998 issue of
"Discover" magazine, "Some physicists believe that the universe's
ultimate speed limit (186,000 miles per second) may someday go the way of the national 55
MPH statute." Dr.Bernhard Haisch,
an astrophysicist at Lockheed Martin and Marc
Millis head of NASA's Lewis Research Center's -
Program", believe that there is a way to make a spaceship fly (???) faster than
the speed of light.

Good news!! The AE staff at
National HQs have been hard at work revising both the senior member AE Specialty Track and
the cadet aerospace program. CAP Regulation 280-2 has been revised top to bottom.
The Aerospace Education Officer Specialty track CAPP 215T, CAPP 215S and CAPP 215M was
reduced from three pamphlets into one pamphlet, CAPP 215. A new award for senior members,
the Scott A. Crossfield Award and ribbon, can be earned with attainment of the aerospace
education officer "Master" rating. The Scott A. Crossfield ribbon is not in the
bookstore catalog. Contact your region director of AE for info. CAP Pamphlet 15, Aerospace
Education Officer's Handbook is being rewritten to provide more "how-to" details
for aerospace education officers.
The cadet aerospace education program is also being revised. There will be six modules in
the Cadet Phase II Aerospace Education Program and each will be completed when the cadets
take and pass the required examination. The status of this initiative is "in the
works". The six modules with leader guides and tests are in coordination within the
CAP National Headquarters. The recently planned video supplements, which will help members
in all units conduct the aerospace education instruction and activities, are being
scripted and then will be produced. It was planned to commence a limited test of the NEW
material during 1998. The test has been delayed until the video supplements are available.
If you would like a more detailed
account of the new AE revisions, check out page 14 of the August 1998 edition of the
Many thanks to those "special" AE folks at National.
